Client: New Down Beat (Non-Profit)
Project: Logo Rebrand & Custom Patch Design
Type: Brand Identity / Apparel & Merchandise
Size: 2.5 x 2.5 / iron-on
Tools Used: Adobe InDesign & Illustrator
Objective: New Down Beat, a percussion-focused group, needed a refreshed visual identity that could be applied to merchandise, custom patches, and digital use. The goal was to create a design that felt modern, rhythmic, and authentic to the community's energy, while remaining functional for embroidery and small-scale print.
Role: As the sole designer, I led the entire rebranding effort from concept to final production files.
This included:
• Discovering and selecting a new custom font to anchor the refreshed identity
• Designing a bold and balanced logo and patch layout suitable for both digital and embroidered formats
• Delivering production-ready vector files and color variations
• Advising on patch specs to ensure clarity and durability in stitching
I worked directly with the client throughout the process to align the visuals with the brand’s tone and application needs.
Results:
• Delivered a complete rebrand that updated the group’s visual tone and improved recognition
• The custom patch became a standout piece of group identity, widely worn and shared
• Received positive feedback for the bold typography and clean, functional design
• Design adaptable for future apparel, stickers, and digital branding
Take Away: This project highlighted the importance of selecting the right typographic voice when rebranding; especially for identity pieces like patches that must communicate clearly at small sizes. Managing both the creative and technical sides of production ensured the final patch was not only eye-catching but also built to last.
